Wish Heroes step up to bring hope to local kids whose wishes are waiting

IvyNine-year-old Ivy, who lives in Contra Costa county and loves Harry Potter, spent 2019 in and out of the hospital battling cancer. She required several rounds of treatment and major surgery to remove the cancerous bone in her arm. When she found out her wish to go to London was coming true, she was thrilled! Her parents noticed a huge boost in her spirits whenever they would talk about her wish.

Ivy just completed her chemotherapy this January and was so excited to finally get to see the scene from her beloved books and check out the Harry Potter Museum. Unfortunately, Ivy’s wish—and more than 50 others like hers—has been postponed as we all wait until it’s safe to travel and gather again.

That's why an amazing group of Wish Heroes has joined together to fundraise on behalf of our chapter, pledging to raise $1,000 or more between April 15 and May 31. Please visit our Wish Heroes’ fundraising pages, read their stories, and donate any amount you can. Every gift is a promise to our wish kids that their wishes will be granted.

Wish alum Imani beats the odds, gives back

ImaniWhen Imani met her idol, Sarah McLachlan, in 2001, she considered the wish to be an end-of-life gift to herself. Diagnosed with an inoperable tumor, she'd been given six months to live. Armed with hope and joy, Imani set out to live life to the fullest—and this week she’s celebrating 20 years of survival against cancer.

When she learned that Sarah McLachlan wanted to meet her, Imani says “it was pure joy during one of the darkest times in my life.” The experience was transformative and life-affirming. “My wish made me feel like maybe I could touch the stars,” Imani explains. “It was just a light. Sarah is the kindest, most generous person.”

“During this time where a lot of people are struggling, I know that cancer doesn’t take a break," she says. "There are still sick kids out there that need hope and who are fighting for their lives. It’s important not to forget about them.” Read Imani's story and donate to her Wish Hero campaign today.
