*We are currently full for wish granters in San Francisco* However, we can make exceptions for people who are bilingual/fluent in Spanish.
Outside of San Francisco, our needs are more open. We have an especially large need for more Spanish-speaking volunteers in all our regions and we are actively recruiting people who are fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic and Vietnamese.
The areas in our territory with the biggest need for wish granters include: Lake County, Brentwood, Salinas, South Monterey County and Solano County.
First, review the positions currently available, then click here to fill out our inquiry form or contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 415-982-9474. A Make-A-Wish representative will be in touch to discuss our volunteer opportunities and upcoming volunteer orientations.
Attend a (60 minute) Volunteer Orientation Session to become familiar with the Make-A-Wish’s Volunteer Program, philosophy, needs, policies, procedures and expectations. After attending the orientation, all orientation attendees will be provided with a Volunteer Application.
Complete and return the Volunteer Application to the chapter office. Upon receipt, the Volunteer Department will contact the individual’s personal references and will work with the new volunteer to set up a brief phone interview.
Due to the nature of our work, select volunteer positions must successfully complete a criminal background check every 3 years. Make-A-Wish does not employ or utilize as a volunteer any individual who has been convicted of a crime that (a) victimizes children, (b) is sexual in nature, or (c) involves violence, fraud, or significant theft.
If you have lived outside of the US within the past 7 years, additional checks and/or proof of clearance may be required. Please contact email@example.com with any questions.
When all the steps (orientation, application, background check, references and phone interview) have been satisfactorily completed, the Volunteer Manager will review the application packet and make a determination whether to accept. The Volunteer Department will contact the new volunteer to officially welcome him/her as a registered Make-A-Wish volunteer.
Note: Any volunteer interested in becoming a wish-granting volunteer will be required to attend a separate 4-5 hour Wish Granter Training session prior to becoming involved in wish activities.
While the background check and application are being processed, volunteers are welcome to participate in any of the quarterly meetings or volunteer at our fundraising events. Volunteers must attend a Wish Granter Training session and complete our entire application process prior to meeting with wish children and their families.
