Wish grantors

Wish Granting
These positions may include interviewing wish children and their families to determine the child’s favorite wish; completing necessary paperwork; serving as a liaison between the wish family and the chapter office; making the wish special and magical for the child. This position requires a four-hour training provided by the Foundation and at least one subsequent observational wish. Wish-granting trainings are held approximately 4-5 times per year. Wish Granters must be at least 18 years old, and our preference is that you be at least 21.

event volunteers

Special Events/ Fundraising
These positions may include performing tasks as needed before, during and following a fundraising event. Event tasks may include: staffing a ticket booth, guest registration, setting up silent auction display tables, parking, food distribution and generating event interest. Volunteers are encouraged to serve on our event committees to ensure successful Make-A-Wish® events. Committee members assist in securing corporate sponsorships, event participation, and items for auction.

Office/Clerical Support
These positions come up less frequently, and may include helping the chapter office with addressing donor acknowledgements, filing, preparing mailings, marketing support, data entry, answering phones, web page design and other administrative tasks as needed.

Board/Committee Member
Individuals in these positions govern the entire Foundation. Prerequisites and nominations are required for Board of Directors consideration.

Professional Support
At times we ask our volunteers for legal assistance, graphic design, computer support, HR, fundraising, photography, video production, public speaking or other professional services, as needed.

Habla Espanol? Our greatest, most consistent volunteer need across all 17 counties of Northern California we serve is for wish granting volunteers who speak fluent Spanish and English. If you are interested in becoming a wish-granting volunteer focused on working with Spanish-language families, please let us know!

Other areas of need in each or our five designated regions are:

  • East Bay (includes Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties): English and bi-lingual Spanish needs in Solano and Contra Costa counties; bi-lingual Spanish speakers only in Alameda County.
  • Monterey Bay (Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito counties): English and bi-lingual Spanish needs in all areas; greatest need in Watsonville, Salinas, Hollister and surrounding areas.
  • South Bay (Santa Clara County): Greatest need for bi-lingual Spanish speakers.
  • North Bay (counties from Marin north to CA/OR border): English and bi-lingual Spanish needs in all areas.
