Ruben, who suffers from leukemia and aspires to be a doctor, will travel to Brazil with his family for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the global soccer showdown, go on a sightseeing tour, visit the FIFA Fan Fest, and participate in other activities of the family’s choosing. Ruben will watch Iran vs. Nigeria on June 16th and attend a second world class match between Honduras and Ecuador on June 20th. Both of the exciting group stage matches will take place within the beautiful World Cup Stadium in Curitiba.
Ruben’s love of soccer came from watching the World Cup on TV, as well as playing the game for four years until he got sick. “Everyone I know has made great efforts to be there for me throughout my illness, but in receiving a wish I feel like I am giving them a little something positive to look forward to as well. I am most excited about visiting a foreign country and coming together with people from all over the world to share in the love for soccer” says Ruben.
Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area has been planning Ruben’s wish to see the spectacle that only occurs every four year since December 2012 and is thrilled see Ruben’s wish come true. Make-A-Wish plans to send him off in style on June 14th for his unforgettable experience. The 2014 World Cup is one of the largest international wish granting endeavors in the history of Make-A-Wish.
