Seventeen-Year-Old Cancer Patient’s Wish to be Investment Banker Comes True
July 24, 2014—San Francisco. Seventeen-year-old Alamo native Terry “Tre” Grinner, was diagnosed last Christmas Eve with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While enduring chemotherapy treatments, he successfully completed all of his educational requirements and graduated from high school. Tre’s dream is to be an investment banker, a first for Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area.
Tre’s wish will begin in San Francisco on Friday with a meeting at Goldman Sachs to help identify his specific areas of interest and prepare him for a “mini internship” in New York City next week.
In addition to his keen interest in investment banking, Tre also loves Italian sports cars. So it was fitting that Make-A-Wish sought help for Tre’s “wish reveal” last month from the Ferrari Owners Group who provided eight Ferraris outside his home to announce his impending wish.
During his week in New York City where he will be a guest of the Conrad Hotel, Tre will have many surprises and experiences involving: Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Yankees Stadium, Freedom Tower, NYSE, and NASDAQ where he will ring the closing bell. “This is a unique wish for us and one we have employed an army of volunteers to assist, starting with Goldman Sachs and BlackRock”, says Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area CEO, Patricia Wilson. “Tre will literally walk in the shoes of an investment banker as he will be wearing shoes from luxury shoe designer Michael Toschi, and Ralph Lauren is making sure he will look the part of an investment banker, as his clothier. Every now and then, a wish snowballs and far exceeds our expectations, going beyond what we could have planned. That is certainly the case here, and my heartfelt thanks go out to all those involved in making this an extraordinary wish for Tre."
